Methoxy Pro - The Best Protein Supplement?
There's a lot of hype and media around Methoxy Pro, being touted 'the biggest break through in bodybuilding supplements.' Is Cytodyne's New MethoxyPro really that great? Let's find out.
We all know Cytodyne is a pretty good company with some solid, high quality supplement products - most notably, Xenadrine RFA-1 and EFX, and like Xenadrine, Methoxy Pro is another big hit among bodybuilders. If you read our price shopper's protein powders comparison guide, you'll see that Methoxy Pro is the most expensive (by proteins) of the protein powders compared.
All these proteins have "proprietary" formulas, as they claim, so it's hard to say which is the best, and since protein is what you're after, the best comparison is based on protein content.
What Makes Methoxy Pro So Good?
Let's take a quick look at what's in a serving of Methoxy Pro: 130 calories, 4g carbs, and 23g of protein - all in all, pretty standard, and nothing spectacular. What really stands out is the use of two very anabolic (muscle building) compounds: Ipriflavone and Methoxyisoflavone, and the blend of amino acids Cytodyne has added into Methoxy Pro which include: Glutamine, Taurine, Glycine, Arginine, Phenylalanine etc...
Ipriflavone and Methoxyisoflavone were discovered in the 70's by Chinoin, a respected Hungarian company. Ipriflavone helps move nutrients into muscle tissues, and reduce body fat levels. It also enhance protein synthesis and nitrogen retention - preventing muscle breakdown and speeding up recovery.
Methoxyisoflavone is shown to be even more anabolic than Ipriflavone. Clinical trials had shown that it reduced cortisol levels, increase protein synthesis, and nitrogen retention, helping speed up recovery, and leading to greater muscle and strength gains.
Both of these anabolic compounds have very little know side effects unlike steroids, and I'd say they're an excellent addition in Methoxy Pro!
A host of amino acids are also added into Methoxy Pro. These amino acids help enhance the effects of anabolism such as Glutamine, Taurine, Arginine, etc... I won't go in detail about each, but you can read a whole article about Glutamine here.
Cytodyne MethoxyPro Taste Test
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd have to only give Methoxy Pro a 6, maybe 6.5. It's not going to be the best tasting protein supplement you taste. This is very much a performance targeted protein supplement, and there are very few 'filler' ingredients to make it taste good. If you want something that tastes good, this isn't for you. I didn't enjoy the taste all that much, and many others will attest to that as well - but it doesn't taste horrid or anything...
But if it's results you're after, I'd say give Methoxy Pro a shot. I gained a decent 10lbs after about 25 days. Not as much as you'd expect from all the hype, but for a hard-gainer, I was pretty happy about it.
Price-wise, Cytodyne Methoxy Pro isn't the cheapest, but for its quality and results, I say give it a shot. At retail, a 2lb bucket costs you around $55 to $60 bucks.
